> Versión en español >

The General Secretariat and the Cartography, Geography, History and Geophysics Commissions of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH), call for the presentation of Requests for Technical Cooperation Projects for 2005. These projects will be submitted for the consideration of the 61st Meeting of Authorities, to be celebrated in June, 2004.

  1. Project Requests to be presented must be related to the following thematic areas:

In Cartography: projects that stimulate and assist the development of Geospatial Data Infrastructures that are indispensable for processes of planning and decision-making, with priority given to the sub-regional and regional level among member States.

In Geography: projects that provide an incentive to the better understanding of the geographical reality of the continent, giving preference to regions and communities, using advanced GIS and geomatic technologies.

In History: projects focused on the perspective of the New Global History leading to greater precision and thoroughness in the knowledge of the historical processes of America, Latin America, and its countries.

In Geophysics: projects related to the prevention of natural disasters, the mitigation and solution of emergency situations, and with the application of geophysical methods to current relevant problems.

  1. The present Call for Requests aspires to comply with the Pan-American ideal that has characterized the PAIGH from its creation. For that reason, special attention will be given to those Project Requests whose results contribute to the better understanding of America, reflect upon the continent, and to overcome its obstacles.
  1. Project Requests must be multinational in nature, that is they must include the participation of at least two member States, for which reason it is necessary that the proposer include confirmation of the participating institutions of the countries involved.
  1. The time limit for the receipt of Requests for Projects in the General Secretariat is 16:00 hours (Mexico time), 14 MAY, 2004. Requests must be presented on the Project Request Form (www.ipgh.org.mx), and sent by regular or electronic mail. In the latter case the page of the form containing signatures must be sent by fax.
  1. In order that Project Requests are presented in an adequate manner we recommend that proposers discuss their project proposals with the respective Commission President, before the final presentation of the request. The names and addresses of the Commission Presidents are attached below.
  1. The average annual amount of projects financed by the PAIGH is US$8,000. There exists the possibility of obtaining additional resources from the Inter-American Agency for Cooperation and Development (IACD) of the OAS, for projects of greater magnitude. Details of such additional resources that are required should be included within the request and will be solicited from the IACD by the General Secretariat.
  1. For a Project Request to be accepted it is required that the respective National Section of the PAIGH has complied with the presentation of its Report on Activities corresponding to the year 2003 (Resolution IX of the XXXVII Meeting of the Directing Council, Guatemala, 2003).
  1. Only those Project Requests that completely meet the requirements stipulated in the Project Request Form will be considered.
