of the XVIII Assembly, the distinction of "Honorary Affiliate" was
awarded to Geographer Pedro Cunill Grau

The Director of IABIN, Ing. Iván Valdespino
and the Secretary General of the PAIGH signed a Cooperative Agreement
for the development of geospatial information for biodiversity

Recognition of out-going Authorities
of the PAIGH
|
|
|
Once the new Authorities of the PAIGH had been
elected the Secretary General presented, in the name of the Institute,
a recognition of those Authorities who finished their mandate in
Caracas, Venezuela; later, the General Assembly approved Resolutions
37 and 38 "Honorary President of the PAIGH" and "Recognition of
the Authorities of the PAIGH", respectively

For the first time the CARTOGRAPHIC COMMISSION
awarded the "Carlos A. Carvallo Yáñez" prize. The winner was the
virtual book "GSDI Cookbook", edited by Douglas D. Nebert (USA).

In this opportunity the "Ricardo Caillet Bois"
Prize of the HISTORY COMMISSION was awarded to Dra. Lucrecia Enriquez
(Chile) for her unpublished work "De colonial a nacional: la carrera
eclesiástica del clero secular chileno 1650-1810". The Chairman
of the Chilean National Section, Col. Luis Alegría Matta, accepted
the prize in her name

The GEOPHYSICS Pan American Medal was awarded
to Prof. Luiz Muniz Barreto (Brazil) as in recognition of his work
and contribution to Geomagnetism
|
Dr. William M. Denevan (USA) received the "Arch
Gerlach" Prize, for his life's work in Pan American GEOGRAPHY. Dr.
Roy Ryder of the US delegation spoke on his behalf at the closing
session
|
The PAIGH speaks Spanish, English, Portuguese
and French
|
|
|
|
19 of the 21 member states participated in
the General Assembly of Caracas, as well as observers from Spain,
France, and Canada that had not participated since 1998. The largest
delegation was that of the USA. Haiti attended with an official
delegation that reactivated its participation in the statutory events
of the PAIGH. The PAIGH speaks Spanish, English, Portuguese and
French

Closing session, 23 November, 2005
|

|
|
Eng. José Ernesto Leva, Chairman of the National
Section of the PAIGH in Honduras, on behalf of the participating
delegations, spoke to thank the hosts, expressing his gratitude
for all the affection and attentions received. Then Dr. Oscar Aguilar,
President of PAIGH, extended his inaugural speech; finally the delegations
received copy of the memoir and of the resolutions
