From May 28 to May 30, 2024, the Mtro. Antonio Campuzano Rosales, General Secretary of the Pan-American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH), visited the Belize-Guatemala Adjacency Zone. During his schedule, I was received by the MA. Sergio L\u00f3pez Vivanco, Director of the Special Mission of the Organization of American States (OAS) in the region, as well as the technical team in charge of monitoring and verification in the field.

The Adjacency Zone is a geographically defined space, established in 2000 through an agreement between both countries with the support of the OAS. Although it does not constitute an international border, this one-kilometer strip of land on each side of an imaginary line is key to maintaining stability and dialogue between Belize and Guatemala. The region is home to approximately 30 thousand people in more than 27 communities, whose economy depends mainly on agricultural, forestry and commercial activities. Peaceful coexistence faces issues related to environmental conservation, security and conflict prevention, which is why the verification work of the OAS, with technical support from the IPGH, is fundamental.

The Office in the Adjacency Zone (OAS-AZ) operates based on four pillars: verification tasks, promotion of the culture of peace, coordination in matters of security and strengthening of political and diplomatic dialogue. In this context, the PAIGH has historically contributed to the technical development of the Adyacencia Line and to institutional strengthening through geographic and cartographic tools.

The visit of the Secretary General reaffirms the PAIGH’s commitment to multilateral efforts to promote cooperation, harmonious coexistence and sustainable development in the region, in line with its institutional motto: Science in the Service of Peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Commemoration of the 215th<\/sup> Anniversary of the May Revolution at the Argentine Embassy in Mexico<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Secretary General of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH), Antonio Campuzano Rosales, attended, at the invitation of the Ambassador of the Argentine Republic in Mexico, Mar\u00eda Gabriela Quinteros, the commemorative reception on the occasion of the 215th<\/sup> Anniversary of the May Revolution, a key date in the history of Argentina’s independence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The May Revolution of 1810 marked the beginning of the emancipation process of the then Viceroyalty of the R\u00edo de la Plata, when the Cabildo of Buenos Aires deposed the Spanish viceroy and established the First Government Junta, laying the foundations for formal independence, declared in 1816.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    During the event, Maestro Campuzano expressed his gratitude to the Argentine people for this significant commemoration and reaffirmed the PAIGH’s commitment to strengthening cooperation ties among the American nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Argentina is one of the 21 Member States of the PAIGH and, since joining, has maintained active participation in the scientific, technical, and academic initiatives promoted by the Institute in favor of knowledge, collaboration, and scientific development on the continent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Visit of distinguished academics from Mexico and Spain at the IPGH Headquarters Palace<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Palacio Sede del Instituto Panamericano de Geograf\u00eda e Historia (IPGH) received a visit from Dr. Carlos De Jes\u00fas Becerril Hern\u00e1ndez, Research Professor and Coordinator of Publications at the Faculty of Law at the Universidad An\u00e1huac, and Dr. Antonio Manuel Luque Reina, academic at the Universidad Aut\u00f3noma de Madrid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    El Mtro. Antonio Campuzano Rosales, Secretary General of the IPGH, welcomes the distinguished guests and leads them on a tour of the installations, starting in the main courtyards of the historic former Archbishopric of Tacubaya and concluding in the \u201cSal\u00f3n William Bowie\u201d. In this space, the Secretary General offered a presentation on the history of the Institute, its role in inter-American scientific cooperation and current projects in the fields of geography, cartography, geophysics and history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    As part of the visit, both academics signed the Book of Distinguished Visitors. Dr. Carlos De Jes\u00fas Becerril Hern\u00e1ndez, who maintains a close collaborative relationship with the IPGH, wrote: \u201cThanks for the honor of receiving me, I appreciate your friendship and good wishes\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    For his part, Dr. Antonio Manuel Luque Reina expressed: \u201cAn authentic honor knowing from within an institution of the quality of the IPGH\u2026\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The General Secretariat of the IPGH is grateful for this visit, which reinforces the links of international academic cooperation and promotes the exchange of knowledge for the benefit of Panamericanism.<\/p>\n\n\n

    The Secretary General of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH), Antonio Campuzano Rosales, held a virtual meeting with Dr. Hermann Manr\u00edquez, President of the PAIGH Geography Commission, to officially welcome Mar\u00eda Jos\u00e9 Vizca\u00edno Guerra as the new editor of the Geographic Journal of this international organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    During the meeting, Mr. Campuzano recognized Ms. Vizca\u00edno’s outstanding career as a collaborator with the PAIGH and congratulated her on taking on this new responsibility, which is essential for continuing to strengthen the academic quality and international reach of the publication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Geographical Journal, published continuously since 1941, is one of the most important publications in its field at the regional level. It is a key platform for the dissemination of geographical knowledge and an essential tool in fulfilling the PAIGH’s mission: to promote science in the service of Pan American and global development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The PAIGH congratulates and warmly welcomes Mar\u00eda Jos\u00e9 Vizca\u00edno to this new editorial stage.<\/p>\n\n\n

    Commemoration of the 95th<\/sup> Anniversary of the delivery in loan of the Palace Headquarters of the PAIGH and unveiling of the Commemorative Plaque to the Heroic Colegio Militar<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    At the headquarters of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH), the commemoration of the 95th anniversary of the delivery was carried out in the loan of the Palace Headquarters, as well as the unveiling of the Commemorative Plaque dedicated to the Heroic Colegio Militar de M\u00e9xico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The ceremony brought together outstanding personalities from the diplomatic, academic, governmental and military spheres, including Lic. Pahola M\u00e9ndez Mata, Vice-president of IPGH; el Lic. Aldo Ugarte Res\u00e9ndiz, Area Director for Central America and the Caribbean; y la Lic. Wilma Gandoy V\u00e1zquez, Area Director of the Coordinating of American Regional Mechanisms, both of the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs of Mexico. He also assisted Brigadier General E.M. Francisco Javier Zubia Gonz\u00e1lez, on behalf of the Secretary of National Defense; la Lic. Ver\u00f3nica Guerrero Huepa, representative of the Public Education Secretariat; el M.C. Fabi\u00e1n V\u00e1zquez Roma\u00f1a, General Coordinator of the National Meteorological Service; y el Mtro. Antonio Campuzano Rosales, General Secretary of the IPGH.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    During the protocolary act, institutional messages were delivered by the Vice-president of the IPGH, the Lic. M\u00e9ndez Mata; la Lic. Gandoy V\u00e1zquez; el General Zubia Gonz\u00e1lez; la Lic. Guerrero Huepa, and the Mtro. Campuzano Rosales. In their interventions they highlighted the historical importance of the IPGH headquarters building, as well as the relevance of interinstitutional cooperation for strengthening science, education and culture in the Pan-American region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    As part of the program, a commemorative plaque was unveiled in honor of the Heroic Colegio Militar, an institution that during the 19th century occupied the monument of the Former Archbishopric of Tacubaya, current headquarters of the IPGH.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    In recognition of this shared memory, the Heroic Colegio Militar participated in the ceremony with an escort, war band, music band, cetreros and guidance of weapons and services, giving the event a solemn and emotional milestone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
