The Ambassador of Guatemala to Mexico, Edgar Armando Guti\u00e9rrez Gir\u00f3n, invited the General Secretariat of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH) to the commemoration of Guatemala’s 204 years of independence. The ceremony was attended by diplomatic authorities, representatives of academic institutions, and members of the Guatemalan community in Mexico, who recalled the values of freedom, unity, and sovereignty that paved the way for their independence.<\/p>\n\n\n

Visit to the ILCE headquarters<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the work agenda of the Secretary General of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH), Antonio Campuzano Rosales visited the facilities of the Latin American Institute for Educational Communication (ILCE).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his stay, he met with the Director General of that institution, Ismael Carvallo Robledo, with the aim of identifying areas of opportunity that would maximize the results of collaboration between the two international organizations. Likewise, both officials reaffirmed their commitment to work together on educational and knowledge dissemination projects, thus strengthening institutional ties for the benefit of the Pan American region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Attendance at the event \u201cLessons Learned: Mexico 1985-2017\u201d organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

MA. Antonio Campuzano Rosales, Secretary General of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History, attended the event \u201cLessons Learned: Mexico 1985-2017\u201d held at the facilities of the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Campuzano participated in this important event, responding to the kind invitation of the SRE, with the aim of promoting a culture of prevention among the staff working at the General Secretariat of the PAIGH, whose host country is Mexico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ongoing collaboration between the PAIGH and the host country’s authorities reflects a commitment to the \u201cPAIGH Strategic Modernization Plan 2022-2025,\u201d which guides the actions of the current administration. This event was held with the aim of \u201creflecting on, exchanging, and implementing the experiences acquired that help strengthen a culture of risk management.\u201d It was chaired by the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation in coordination with UNESCO Mexico, the Mexican Embassy in Japan, JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency), and the SRE.<\/p>\n\n\n

4th<\/sup> Edition of the Training Workshop on Geographic Names and Geospatial Information<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 4th<\/sup> Edition of the Training Workshop on Geographic Names and Geospatial Information was held in Suwon, South Korea, at the facilities of the National Geographic Information Institute of the Republic of Korea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nineteen people from 17 member countries of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH) participated in the course, as well as two international organizations: the Office of the Secretary General of the OAS in the Belize-Guatemala Adjacency Zone and the PAIGH itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The generous support of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Mexico contributes to the work of increasing scientific knowledge in the Pan American community through the awarding of scholarships to specialists in cartography.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The delegation of scholarship recipients at this workshop was led by MSc. Max Alberto Lobo Hern\u00e1ndez, President of the Institute’s Cartography Commission, and by Mr. Sergio Mart\u00ednez Torres, representing the PAIGH General Secretariat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seven conferences were held with the participation of leading international experts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the first day, the main topics were Cartography, Geography, and the National Atlas of Korea, with presentations by Prof. Mircia Ribeiro Fortes, Federal University of Amazonas; Mr. JANG Young-ki, Deputy Director of the NGII; Dr. KIM Jong-Geun, Director of the Dokdo Museum; and Prof. KIM Minho, Sangmyung University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the second day, topics covered the standardization of geographic names, spatial information, and strategies for the use of national satellites, with presentations by Prof. CHOO Sung-Jae, Kyung Hee University; Mr. KIM Chang-Wo, Deputy Director, NGII; and Ms. PARK Suyoung, Senior Researcher, NGII.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The General Secretariat of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH) thanks all the speakers for sharing their knowledge and the NGII authorities for their collaboration in organizing the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This workshop is a valuable opportunity for capacity building for PAIGH member countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The closing ceremony of this Training Workshop on Geographical Names and Geospatial Information, held in the Republic of Korea, was conducted by the Director of the National Geographic Information Institute (NGII), Mr. CHOO Woosug, who addressed the participants, highlighting the importance of this space for training and international cooperation. In addition, recognition was given to the President of the PAIGH Cartography Commission, M.Sc. Max Lobo, who said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOn behalf of the PAIGH and its General Secretariat, we reiterate our deep gratitude. May this fourth workshop that we have completed mark the path toward more fruitful encounters, where knowledge and cooperation continue to strengthen our ties.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Likewise, Honduran participant Alva Luz Castro offered words of gratitude, recognizing the valuable work of the NGII and the PAIGH in organizing the workshop. At the same event, participants Kellith Melixa G\u00f3mez from Colombia and Leonardo Andr\u00e9s da Costa from Uruguay presented the Suwon 2025 Declaration, aimed at strengthening the governance of geographical names in the Americas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the closing ceremony, fellows from PAIGH member countries received recognition for their outstanding participation in conferences, discussions, and academic activities. This gesture symbolizes not only the individual efforts of each participant, but also the importance of collaborative work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Pan American Institute of Geography and History extends special thanks to the Republic of Korea and the NGII for their hospitality, dedication, and efforts in making this international meeting possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Meeting with the General Secretariat of the OAS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Antonio Campuzano Rosales held a remote meeting with Juan Minetto, an official from the Office of the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    At the meeting, the Secretary General of this institution provided Mr. Minetto with an overview of the ongoing activities carried out by the PAIGH. Dr. Patricia Sol\u00eds, President of the PAIGH, was also present at the meeting and provided further information to the OAS official regarding the substantive work carried out by the PAIGH for the benefit of scientific development in the Pan American region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Secretary General of the PAIGH, Antonio Campuzano, expressed his support and backing for the work of Albert R. Ramdin, in the context of his recent appointment as Secretary General of the OAS. For the PAIGH, it is essential to maintain close collaboration and communication with representatives of the OAS, as it should be remembered that the Pan American Institute is a scientific body belonging to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between UGI and IPGH<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    A memorandum of understanding between the Pan American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH) and the International Geographical Union (IGU) was signed remotely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    This important agreement was signed by Antonio Campuzano Rosales, Secretary General of the PAIGH, and Dr. Nathalie Lemarchand, President of the IGU. Also present as an honorary witness was the President of the PAIGH, Dr. Patricia Sol\u00eds, who expressed her satisfaction with the launch of this strategic alliance, which came about thanks to her efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    This agreement marks a milestone in the IPGH’s collaboration with various organizations of global significance, such as the UGI, a non-governmental organization founded in 1922 dedicated to the development of the discipline of geography.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The IPGH also appreciates the kind efforts of Dr. Rub\u00e9n Camilo Lois Gonz\u00e1lez, Vice President of the UGI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    In this way, the PAIGH is complying with its 2022-2025 Strategic Modernization Plan, in its guiding principle IV, which seeks to strengthen the global presence of this international organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Working meeting with the National Section of the PAIGH in Honduras<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    MA. Antonio Campuzano Rosales, Secretary General of the PAIGH, held a remote meeting with Ms. Leidy Ulloa, President of the National Section of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History in Honduras, and Mr. Horacio Ezequiel Padilla, Geography Coordinator of the General Directorate of Cartography and Geography of the Property Institute of that country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    This working meeting was held to follow up on the timely organization of the PAIGH’s statutory meetings in October in the city of Tegucigalpa, Honduras.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Participation in the 31st<\/sup> General Assembly of the CISS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Secretary General of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH), Antonio Campuzano Rosales, accompanied by his wife, Ver\u00f3nica Ireta Badillo, attended the closing ceremony of the XXXI General Assembly of the Inter-American Conference on Social Security (CISS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    During the ceremony, Mr. Pedro Kumamoto Aguilar was ratified as Secretary General of the CISS, which constitutes an endorsement of his leadership and the work he has done in favor of international cooperation in the field of social security. This reelection not only represents the confidence placed in his management, but also the continuity of strategic projects aimed at strengthening social protection systems for the benefit of millions of people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Signing of the CISS-IPGH Memorandum of Understanding<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Pan American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH) and the Inter-American Conference on Social Security (IACSS) consolidated a strategic alliance by signing a memorandum of understanding at the IACSS headquarters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The agreement was formalized by Pedro Kumamoto, Secretary General of the CISS, and Antonio Campuzano Rosales, Secretary General of the PAIGH, in a ceremony that reaffirms the willingness of both institutions to join forces in favor of knowledge, scientific research, and the well-being of the Pan American region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    During the ceremony, it was emphasized that this agreement represents a commitment to collaboration aimed at promoting joint projects in areas such as earth sciences, history, technical training, institutional strengthening, and sustainable development. Both organizations agreed that combining their capabilities and experiences will enable them to achieve better results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Antonio Campuzano Rosales expressed his appreciation to Pedro Kumamoto and his team for their enthusiasm in welcoming this initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    For his part, the Secretary General of the CISS highlighted the importance of expanding opportunities for dialogue and cooperation with specialized organizations such as the PAIGH, which strengthen the development of scientific and technical communities serving the nations of the continent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Signing of the CIESAS-IPGH Memorandum of Understanding<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The headquarters of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History welcomed Dr. Carlos Mac\u00edas Richard, Director General of the Center for Research and Higher Studies in Social Anthropology (CIESAS), who, accompanied by researchers from the Center, was received by the Secretary General of the PAIGH, Antonio Campuzano Rosales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    With the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the PAIGH and CIESAS, a new phase of scientific collaboration between the two institutions has begun, with representatives from both sides agreeing on the importance of this new strategic alliance, which will bring benefits to the Pan American scientific community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Dr. Mac\u00edas highlighted the prominent role that the PAIGH plays in the academic sphere in the Americas, through the extensive scientific and technical work carried out in collaboration with the National Sections of its Member States, as well as the new perspectives that are opening up with the signing of this Memorandum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    For his part, Mr. Campuzano thanked the #CIESAS delegation for their visit and emphasized the PAIHG’s willingness and interest in working closely with this Mexican research center to promote scientific production in areas related to the PAIHG. They also agreed that this collaboration will be very dynamic and productive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
