The 101st<\/sup> Meeting of Authorities of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History began<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the most important statutory meetings of the PAIGH is the Meeting of Authorities, as they constitute the body responsible for coordinating and ensuring compliance with the resolutions of the General Assembly, as well as proposing initiatives on matters within their competence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the 101st<\/sup> Meeting of Authorities, Mr. Antonio Campuzano Rosales, Secretary General of the PAIGH, was the host at the headquarters palace located in Tacubaya, Mexico City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Campuzano warmly welcomed the six PAIGH authorities: Dr. Patricia Sol\u00eds, President; Ms. Pahola M\u00e9ndez, Vice President; Dr. Filiberto Cruz, President of the History Commission; Mr. Max Lobo Hern\u00e1ndez, President of the Cartography Commission; Dr. Hermann Manr\u00edquez, President of the Geography Commission; and Dr. Mario Ruiz, President of the Geophysics Commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The authorities took a tour of the headquarters building, guided by the Secretary General, where they were able to witness the various changes and recent renovations made to the facilities of this international organization, such as the Historical Archive, the Newspaper Library, the William Bowie Hall, and the offices of the General Secretariat itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among other relevant activities, during the CI Meeting of Authorities of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the PAIGH and the Pan American Development Foundation (PADF).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The purpose of the memorandum of understanding is to leverage the experience and resources of both entities to address some of the most pressing challenges in the Americas and the Caribbean region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the first day’s program, the President presented her activity report, which was received in accordance with the working table, composed of the Vice President, Secretary General, and the four Commission Presidents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Renovations at the PAIGH headquarters building<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Part of the agenda for these days was a simple but very representative ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the recent renovations made to the headquarters building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Phase I of the restoration of the headquarters building included improvements to the main hall, \u201cWilliam Bowie,\u201d where PAIGH events are held.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Likewise, work was completed on replacing the doors and windows adjacent to the main courtyard of the Palace. It should be noted that the old wooden doors and windows were replaced with metal ones with finishes resistant to the effects of inclement weather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is important to note that this restoration work was supported by authorities from the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) in terms of permit management, and it should be especially mentioned that this work was made possible thanks to the budget processed by Dr. Patricia Sol\u00eds, President of this international organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Working meeting with Francisco Javier Medina, Deputy Director General of Basic Geographic Information at INEGI, Mexico<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The agenda on this occasion covered topics related to the Integrated Map of the Americas, the Committee on Geographical Names, and upcoming national and international sessions in which INEGI and PAIGH actively participate, such as the High-Level Expert Forum and the UN-GGIM: Americas meetings. We thank Mr. Medina for his time, advice, and knowledge shared with this Institute on the subject.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

External Audit Report 2023<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Secretary General of the PAIGH, Antonio Campuzano Rosales, received the 2023 external audit report from Ricardo Vieyra, an auditor with the firm Vieyra Mota y Asociados S.C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the same working session, Mr. Campuzano signed the PAIGH’s financial statements for the year 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These two events represent a milestone in the path of transparency and accountability to which the current PAIGH administration is committed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It should be noted that both the audit report and the financial statements will be forwarded to the APEF Committee of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History, in compliance with the provisions of its Organic Statute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Virtual meeting with architect Albertina Soledad Rodr\u00edguez de Aguilar and Victoria Ramos, officials from the Geographic Institute and National Cadastre of the Republic of El Salvador<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The purpose of this working meeting was to introduce Victoria Ramos as the new collaborator of the National Section of the PAIGH in El Salvador, replacing Albertina Rodr\u00edguez. MA. Campuzano thanked Ms. Rodr\u00edguez for her services and offered Ms. Ramos all the necessary support in her new role. Likewise, the Secretary of the PAIGH maintains his commitment to serving the Pan-American community by participating in and accompanying the various changes in the structure of the National Sections that make up this Institute.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

23<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Donation of a collection of books and journals to the government of the Republic of Honduras<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The PAIGH, fulfilling its mission to work for the benefit of the Pan American community, donated a collection of publications books and journals to the government of the Republic of Honduras. This gift includes more than 650 works published by the PAIGH throughout its 96-year history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his visit to the PAIGH headquarters, Minister Dimas Alexi Escobar expressed his gratitude on behalf of his country’s government for this interesting donation of academic and scientific materials, which will have a direct impact on the new generations of this Member State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The formal ceremony concluded with the Minister signing the \u201cDistinguished Visitors Book.\u201d He also expressed his gratitude to the PAIGH for its great work in generating and disseminating scientific knowledge, and said he was delighted with his tour of the headquarters of this international organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The PAIGH remains committed to its member countries to contribute to the development of the Pan American community through science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visit to the Embassy of the Republic of Peru<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the aim of making a symbolic delivery of a donation of more than 300 works from the Periodicals collection (scientific journals) published by the PAIGH, some since 1938, the Secretary General of the PAIGH, Antonio Campuzano Rosales, visited the offices of the Peruvian Embassy in Mexico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the formal ceremony, the PAIGH’s publications were presented, and gifts were exchanged. Peruvian officials expressed their gratitude to this international organization for its great work in generating and disseminating scientific knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The works will be sent to the Military Geographic Institute of the Republic of Peru, to be made available to professionals interested in the fields of cartography, geography, geophysics, and history. Presentation and Cancellation Ceremony for the Commemorative Postage Stamp marking the 60th<\/sup> Anniversary of the Diego Rivera Anahuacalli Museum<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

MA. Antonio Campuzano Rosales, Secretary General of the PAIGH, attended, accompanied by his distinguished wife, Mrs. Ver\u00f3nica Ireta Badillo, the presentation and cancellation of the commemorative postage stamp for the 60th<\/sup> anniversary of the Diego Rivera Anahuacalli Museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was presided over by Victoria Rodr\u00edguez Ceja, Governor of the Bank of Mexico, Roc\u00edo B\u00e1rcena Molina, Director of the Mexican Postal Service (SEPOMEX), Mar\u00eda Teresa Moya Malfav\u00f3n, Director of the Anahuacalli Museum, and Jessica Serrano Bandala, Director of Financial Education and Cultural Promotion at the Bank of Mexico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The IPGH extends its sincere congratulations to Ms. Moya Malfav\u00f3n on the anniversary of the museum under her charge, and especially on the issuance of the commemorative stamp, as it is a sign of recognition of the enormous cultural heritage preserved in this historic site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With a commitment to advancing the activities of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History, the Secretary General of the PAIGH, Antonio Campuzano Rosales, and the President of the PAIGH National Section in the Republic of Argentina and Director of the National Geographic Institute, CR (R) Jorge H. Machuca, met virtually. Mr. Machuca was accompanied by Emiliano Hern\u00e1ndez Lascano.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting focused on coordinating the statutory meetings for the second half of 2024, as well as Argentina’s participation as a member of the PAIGH’s Advisory Committee on Planning and Financial Evaluation (APEF), where its attendance is important to ensure the accuracy and transparency of the financial and audit reports on the PAIGH’s budget for 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We thank the National Sections for their valuable contributions to the activities and meetings that are carried out for the benefit of the Member States of this international organization, in terms of projects, scholarships, publications, among other dynamics that are generated in the scientific-academic field of Cartography, Geography, Geophysics, History, and related sciences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
