On November 19, 2024, the 25th<\/sup> General Assembly of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH) began with a formal ceremony at the headquarters of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in Santiago, Chile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This event brings together authorities, representatives, and experts from PAIGH Member States, who gather to deliberate on strategic initiatives and collaborative projects that will strengthen scientific and technical cooperation in the areas of geography, cartography, geophysics, and history in the Pan American region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The PAIGH authorities presented their reports for the current year, highlighting their joint work on calls for proposals and awarding of prizes, monitoring project development (technical reports and fund disbursement), periodical publications, virtual meetings, budget allocation, organization of conferences, and representation at international events, both in person and virtual, among other activities in the areas of cartography, geography, history, geophysics, and related sciences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For his part, Antonio Campuzano Rosales highlighted the progress made in accordance with the IPGH’s 2022-2025 Strategic Modernization Plan, reaffirming efforts to consolidate efficient and transparent management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 102n<\/sup>d Meeting of Authorities of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH) was inaugurated in the city of Santiago, Chile. This event was held at the facilities of the Military Geographic Institute (IGM).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The working group was composed of PAIGH authorities: Dr. Patricia Sol\u00eds, President; Lic. Pahola M\u00e9ndez Mata, Vice President; Antonio Campuzano Rosales, Secretary General; Max A. Lobo Hern\u00e1ndez, MSc. Max A. Lobo Hern\u00e1ndez, President of the Cartography Commission; Dr. Hermann Manr\u00edquez Tirado, President of the Geography Commission; Dr. Reina C. Rosario Fern\u00e1ndez, Vice President of the History Commission; and Dr. Mario Calixto Ruiz Romero, President of the Geophysics Commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Antonio Campuzano Rosales, Secretary General of the PAIGH, welcomed the attendees and highlighted that the meeting agenda includes the review of key resolutions that will be presented at the upcoming 25th<\/sup> General Assembly of the PAIGH. These resolutions seek to consolidate the Institute’s impact for the benefit of Member States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Signing of Memorandum of Understanding between PAIGH and Bernardo O’Higgins University (UBO)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

As part of the activities of the 102nd<\/sup> Meeting of Authorities of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH), Monday, November 18, 2024, began with a visit to Bernardo O’Higgins University (UBO) in Santiago, Chile. The rector of the institution, Dr. Claudio Alberto Ruff Escobar, warmly welcomed the PAIGH representatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During this visit, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the PAIGH and the UBO. The document was signed by the rector of the UBO and Mr. Antonio Campuzano Rosales, Secretary General of the PAIGH, with Dr. Patricia Sol\u00eds, President of the PAIGH, and Colonel Carlos Prado Casanova, President of the Chilean National Section, participating as witnesses of honor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This agreement establishes a framework for collaboration in key areas such as cartography, geography, geophysics, and geographical names, with a special emphasis on joint efforts to address the climate emergency and increase the resilience of nations to climate change. In the field of history, the PAIGH seeks to strengthen its ties with the academies of history in the Americas, promoting teaching and historical identity on the continent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
