Discussion on the battlefields of Junín and Ayacucho
The Palace headquarters of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History hosted an important academic event, the discussion forum “The battlefields of Junín and Ayacucho: archaeology and history come to life through their protagonists.”
This event was organized by the Embassy of Peru in Mexico as part of the bicentennial celebration of the consolidation of its independence.
The discussion featured the participation of prominent historians from other Member States, such as Argentina, Chile, and Colombia, who spoke about the significance of the Battle of Junín and Ayacucho as a culminating milestone in Peruvian independence.
The program was divided into two segments. In the first segment, we had the participation of Dr. Natalia Sobrevilla Perea, independent researcher, and Milena Vega Centeno Alzamora, from the History Commission of the National Section of the PAIGH in Peru. The moderators were Yesica Fonseca, Minister Counselor of the Embassy of Peru in Mexico, and Antonio Campuzano Rosales, Secretary General of the PAIGH. The academic dialogue between these personalities provided a clear and illustrative perspective on the significance of the historical event of the aforementioned battle for Peru and the region.
The second segment of this hybrid discussion was moderated by Minister Sebastián Lara of the Chilean Embassy in Mexico and featured contributions from historians from Argentina, Dr. Gabriel Di Meglio (University of Buenos Aires); Chile, Dr. Cristián Guerrero Lira (University of Chile); and Colombia, Dr. Eduardo Correa (National Autonomous University of Mexico). The exchange of ideas among the guests shed light on the importance of the events that led to the consolidation of Peruvian independence.
The PAIGH reaffirms its commitment to the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge through the organization and support of academic events such as this one.

Delivery of the works of Inca Garcilaso de la Vega to the PAIGH
As part of the symposium “The Battlefields of Junín and Ayacucho: Archaeology and History Come Alive Through Their Protagonists” held at the headquarters of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History, the “Complete Works” of Inca Garcilaso de la Vega were presented.
From the hands of the Minister Counselor of the Embassy of Peru in Mexico, Yesica Fonseca, Mr. Antonio Campuzano Rosales, Secretary General of the PAIGH, gratefully received the copies of this magnificent work published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Inca Garcilaso Cultural Center of Peru.
For the PAIGH, this donation represents a valuable addition to its bibliographic collection, as the work of Inca Garcilaso de la Vega is fundamental to understanding the discovery and conquest of Peru. Furthermore, this act is symbolic because the oil portrait of this figure is part of the PAIGH’s Gallery of Historians and Geographers of America.
