August 2024

At the PAIGH headquarters, we received a kind visit from Mr. Dimas Alexi Escobar Guillén, Minister Chargé d’Affaires; Dennis Miguel McCoy Dubón, First Secretary; and Dr. Berthaly Bueso Serrano, First Secretary, from the Embassy of the Republic of Honduras in Mexico.

On this occasion, the reason for the visit was the donation of the National Flag of the Republic of Honduras to the Pan American Institute of Geography and History. It is worth noting the importance of receiving the national flag, as it bears the official colors, as established by the decree issued by the National Congress of that sister country.

Mr. Campuzano expressed his joy and commitment upon receiving the national symbol of this PAIGH Member State, and thanked them for their trust in entrusting him with the safekeeping of their flag, which has now been added to the other symbols representing the Member and Observer Countries.

From August 7 to 9, 2024, the Secretary General of the PAIGH participated in four items on the agenda of the 14th Session of the Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM), held at the United Nations headquarters in New York (United States of America).
The topics of his participation were as follows:

  • “United Nations Integrated Geospatial Information Framework,” where Mr. Campuzano expressed his gratitude and reaffirmed his support for the United Nations Group of Experts on the Geodetic Reference Framework and its Joint Plan.

  • “Collaboration with the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names,” explained that through a resolution approved at the last General Assembly of the PAIGH (Dominican Republic, 2023), a Committee on Geographical Names was created with the support of the National Section of the United States of America, chaired and organized by the National Section of the Dominican Republic, with the mission of unifying and coordinating geographical names in the Americas, as well as representing the PAIGH before the UN.

As part of the commemoration of the 199th anniversary of the independence of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, the representative of this PAIGH Member State in Mexico organized an exhibition entitled “Colored Seeds, Pachamama Joy of the Eagle and the Condor,” featuring works by Bolivian artist Roberto Mamani Mamani.

Mr. Sergio Martínez Torres, representing the Secretary General of the PAIGH, Mr. Antonio Campuzano Rosales, attended the National Museum of World Cultures (Mexico City), where he was warmly welcomed by the hosts, His Excellency Ambassador José Crespo Fernández and his distinguished wife, who offered the guests an interesting tour of the museum to enjoy the works full of indigenous symbols, colors, and textures that convey the character, tradition, and emotions of that beautiful South American country: Bolivia.

With particular interest in the history of this venue, Minister Espinosa toured the facilities of the General Secretariat, guided by Mr. Campuzano, who also provided him with important information about the 96-year history of the PAIGH.

He also gave a presentation on the development of the “Strategic Plan for the Modernization of the PAIGH, 2022-2025,” its strategies and lines of action to strengthen the ongoing work of this international organization.

Subsequently, the invitation for the PAIGH member country of the Dominican Republic to continue participating in the Institute’s calls for projects, scholarships, awards, and publications.

MA. Campuzano concluded by thanking the country for hosting the 24th General Assembly of the PAIGH, held in 2023.

In a pleasant and interesting conversation, both officials discussed topics related to the IPHG’s periodicals, within the framework of the BNAH project, which aims to digitize and present the complete collections of this international organization’s scientific journals.

We will soon have more news about this new portal, which will provide open access for researchers and the general public interested in cartography, geography, geophysics, history, anthropology, and archaeology.
