Pan-American Congress on the Teaching of History

The Pan-American Congress on History Education is scheduled to offer a rich program of presentations by specialists in the field on Thursdays in August.
The virtual event, organized by the PAIGH History Commission, headed by Dr. Filiberto Cruz Sánchez and Dr. Reina Rosario, Vice President of the Commission, features the participation of historians and audiences from various Pan American countries.
The opening ceremony was graced by the presence of PAIGH authorities, as well as attendees who showed interest in the presentations by history specialists.

Donation of the National Flag of the Republic of Honduras to the PAIGH
At the PAIGH headquarters, we received a kind visit from Mr. Dimas Alexi Escobar Guillén, Minister Chargé d’Affaires; Dennis Miguel McCoy Dubón, First Secretary; and Dr. Berthaly Bueso Serrano, First Secretary, from the Embassy of the Republic of Honduras in Mexico.
On this occasion, the reason for the visit was the donation of the National Flag of the Republic of Honduras to the Pan American Institute of Geography and History. It is worth noting the importance of receiving the national flag, as it bears the official colors, as established by the decree issued by the National Congress of that sister country.
Mr. Campuzano expressed his joy and commitment upon receiving the national symbol of this PAIGH Member State, and thanked them for their trust in entrusting him with the safekeeping of their flag, which has now been added to the other symbols representing the Member and Observer Countries.

Opening of the exhibition “The Legacy of Carlos Mérida”
MA. Antonio Campuzano Rosales, Secretary General of the PAIGH, was invited by the Ambassador of the Republic of Guatemala in Mexico, Mr. Mario Adolfo Búcaro Flores, and his distinguished wife, Mrs. Gabriela Roda, to a tribute dedicated to Guatemalan painter and sculptor Carlos Mérida. As part of the 40th anniversary of Maestro Mérida’s death, an interesting exhibition of the late artist’s works was inaugurated. Maestro Mérida (1891-1984) was part of the Mexican muralist movement, but from an abstract and geometric perspective, unlike the narrative and figurative style of the great masters of that movement. His creative life unfolded between Guatemala and Mexico.

14th Session of the Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM), held at the United Nations Headquarters, New York (United States of America)

MA. Antonio Campuzano Rosales, Secretary General of the PAIGH, participated in the Board of Directors of the Regional Committee, of which he is a member, representing the PAIGH, in addition to providing continuity and strengthening related issues with specialized international organizations and institutions. The objective is precisely to seek a space for interaction so that Member States can present and discuss the extent to which geospatial data and information support or are useful for high-level decision-making and the formulation of public policies on geospatial issues.

From August 7 to 9, 2024, the Secretary General of the PAIGH participated in four items on the agenda of the 14th Session of the Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM), held at the United Nations headquarters in New York (United States of America).
The topics of his participation were as follows:
- “United Nations Integrated Geospatial Information Framework,” where Mr. Campuzano expressed his gratitude and reaffirmed his support for the United Nations Group of Experts on the Geodetic Reference Framework and its Joint Plan.
- “Global Reference Frame”; he expressed his gratitude and reaffirmed his support for the United Nations Group of Experts on the Geodetic Reference Frame and its Joint Plan.
- “Geospatial Information for Climate and Resilience,” where he expressed his appreciation for the report of the United Nations High-Level Working Group of Experts on Geospatial Information for its efforts, the achievement of its initiatives, and its plans outlined for 2024-2025.
- “Collaboration with the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names,” explained that through a resolution approved at the last General Assembly of the PAIGH (Dominican Republic, 2023), a Committee on Geographical Names was created with the support of the National Section of the United States of America, chaired and organized by the National Section of the Dominican Republic, with the mission of unifying and coordinating geographical names in the Americas, as well as representing the PAIGH before the UN.

“Colored seeds, Pachamama, joy of the Eagle and the Condor”
As part of the commemoration of the 199th anniversary of the independence of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, the representative of this PAIGH Member State in Mexico organized an exhibition entitled “Colored Seeds, Pachamama Joy of the Eagle and the Condor,” featuring works by Bolivian artist Roberto Mamani Mamani.
Mr. Sergio Martínez Torres, representing the Secretary General of the PAIGH, Mr. Antonio Campuzano Rosales, attended the National Museum of World Cultures (Mexico City), where he was warmly welcomed by the hosts, His Excellency Ambassador José Crespo Fernández and his distinguished wife, who offered the guests an interesting tour of the museum to enjoy the works full of indigenous symbols, colors, and textures that convey the character, tradition, and emotions of that beautiful South American country: Bolivia.

Visit by Mr. Freddy Espinosa Mireles, Minister Counselor of the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in Mexico
With particular interest in the history of this venue, Minister Espinosa toured the facilities of the General Secretariat, guided by Mr. Campuzano, who also provided him with important information about the 96-year history of the PAIGH.
He also gave a presentation on the development of the “Strategic Plan for the Modernization of the PAIGH, 2022-2025,” its strategies and lines of action to strengthen the ongoing work of this international organization.
Subsequently, the invitation for the PAIGH member country of the Dominican Republic to continue participating in the Institute’s calls for projects, scholarships, awards, and publications.
MA. Campuzano concluded by thanking the country for hosting the 24th General Assembly of the PAIGH, held in 2023.

Visit by Her Excellency María Gabriela Quinteros, Ambassador of the Argentine Republic to Mexico

During the tour of the headquarters of the Palace, Mr. Campuzano invited the Republic of Argentina, a member country of the PAIGH, to continue its ongoing participation in the calls for projects, scholarships, awards, and publications offered by the Institute.

Visit by the Secretary General of the PAIGH to Dr. Baltazar Brito Guadarrama, Director of the National Anthropology Library (BNAH), Mexico City
In a pleasant and interesting conversation, both officials discussed topics related to the IPHG’s periodicals, within the framework of the BNAH project, which aims to digitize and present the complete collections of this international organization’s scientific journals.
We will soon have more news about this new portal, which will provide open access for researchers and the general public interested in cartography, geography, geophysics, history, anthropology, and archaeology.

Visit by Mr. Yong Koo Kang, Economic Affairs Counselor at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Mexico

The exchange of academic information between the Korean and Pan-American scientific communities continues, and ties of friendship and collaboration are strengthened. It should be noted that at the last General Assembly (24th General Assembly, November 2023, Dominican Republic) of the PAIGH, Resolution 4 was approved, recognizing this country’s collaboration with the Institute: “Gratitude to the Republic of Korea for its contributions as a Permanent Observer State of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History.”
