Tour of the Architecture of the headquarters of the CISS
MA. Pedro Kumamoto, Secretary General of the Inter-American Conference on Social Security (CISS), organized an “Architectural Tour” around the buildings of this international organization, which has its central office in Mexico City.
MA. Antonio Campuzano Rosales, Secretary General of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH), accompanied by his wife, Mrs Verónica Ireta Badillo, members of the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Mexico, were invited to this event, where the architectural and historical value of the CISS headquarters building was highlighted.
During the visit, MA. Campuzano stated to MA. Kumamoto his recognition for the organization of the activity and the importance of this type of initiatives for strengthening the identity and the historic records of Pan American institutions.
This meeting facilitated the exchange of ideas between representatives of various entities committed to promoting knowledge and culture in the region.


Work Meeting with ESRI and the PAIGH Commissions
The Secretary General of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH), MA. Antonio Campuzano Rosales met Eng. Eric van Praag, representative of ESRI, and the Presidents of the Cartography and Geography Commissions of this Institute, MSc. Max Lobo and Dr. Hermann Manríquez, respectively.
During the meeting and within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding between the PAIGH and ESRI, the creation of a working group for coordination was agreed; the function of this group shall be to plan and put into effect the jointly run activities established in this cooperation agreement.
In this way, the PAIGH continues building strategic alliances that contribute to progress in knowledge that benefits the Pan American scientific and technical community.

Virtual Meeting for Organizing the 26th General Assembly of the PAIGH

MA. Antonio Campuzano Rosales, Secretary General of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH), accompanied by BA Sergio Martínez, Personal Secretary, met in virtual mode with Horacio Ezequiel Padilla, Director General of Cartography and Geography of the Institute for Property ; Mr. Padilla acted on behalf of Eng. Leidy Ulloa, President of the PAIGH National Section in Honduras.The main objective of the meeting was to make progress in the preparations for the 26th General Assembly of the PAIGH, which shall take place in the Member State of Honduras in the month of October of this year.

The Pan American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH) received, at its Palace building headquarters, MA. Pedro Kumamoto, Secretary General of the Inter-American Conference on Social Security (CISS), accompanied by his associates: Miss. Daniela Chávez, Executive Director of Outreach, Relations and Attention to Memberships; Mr. Emmanuel Ramírez, Head of the Cabinet; and Miss María José Zazueta, Personal Secretary of the CISS Secretary General.
MA. Antonio Campuzano Rosales, Secretary General of the PAIGH, and his wife, Mrs. Verónica Ireta Badillo, welcomed the distinguished visitors, who made a tour around the premises of the Palace building, with special attention to the architectural and historic value of the site and the scientific importance of the work that is being performed there for the benefit of the Pan American region.
During the meeting, held with protocol, MA. Campuzano stated his appreciation for the visit and for the interest of the CISS in strengthening inter-institutional cooperation, emphasizing the importance of establishing strategic alliances for supporting and pushing forwards research and the dissemination of knowledge in America.
For his part, MA. Pedro Kumamoto recognized the work of the PAIGH and its impact on the scientific community, stating with emphasis: “We would like to recognize the organization and the increase in the grants, the quality in the publications that has been achieved, and, of course, its participation and involvement in all the scientific activities”.
As a sample of the production of publications at the PAIGH, the visitors were provided with a collection of specialized published materials. At the end of the meeting, MA. Campuzano Rosales restated the commitment of the PAIGH to its institutional slogan: “Science in the Service of Peace”, affirming that this is not just a saying, it is our reason for being.

Visit of Dr. André Figueiredo to the PAIGH and the renewal of activities of the National Section of Brazil
At the Palace building headquarters of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH), the PAIGH was proud to receive Dr. André Figueiredo Rodrigues, President of the National Section of the PAIGH in Brazil and academic of the “Paulista” State University in São Paulo. In this visit, MA. Antonio Campuzano Rosales, Secretary General of the PAIGH, highlighted the outstanding scientific career of Dr. Figueiredo, who has been a fundamental part of the PAIGH over almost 20 years.
As part of the program, the members of the National Section of Brazil were there, present in virtual mode; MA. Campuzano presented to them the progress in the 2022-2025 Strategic Modernization Plan, with the 27 lines of action. The Secretary General talked about the historic participation of Brazil in the PAIGH, mentioning that Rio de Janeiro was the host site for the inaugural assembly of this institution in 1932 and that the PAIGH Geography Commission was created in 1946 on the initiative of the Brazilian government.
Dr. Figueiredo stated his satisfaction about renewing activities with the PAIGH, highlighting the leadership of MA. Antonio Campuzano, Dr. Patricia Solís and BSc. Pahola Méndez. During the visit, the representation of the PAIGH in Brazil was established formally, with the scientists who will collaborate in the four key areas of the Institute being presented:
- Cartography Commission: Alex da Silva Santos and Rafael Balbi Reis.
- Geography Commission: Daiane de Paula Ciriáco and María Lúcia Ribeiro Vilarinhos.
- Geophysics Commission: Sérgio Luiz Fontes and Fábio Pinto Vieira.
- History Commission: Lucia Helena Oliveira Silva and Carlos Alberto Sampaio Barbosa.
All of the assignations were made official by the government of Brazil through the Official Bulletin. Dr. Figueiredo also remembered, with satisfaction, the announcement made at the 25th General Assembly of the PAIGH in Santiago, Chile (2024), about the return of Brazil to active participation in the PAIGH.
Before finishing the virtual session, the members of the National Section of Brazil reaffirmed their commitment to the PAIGH, emphasizing their participation in the programs, grants, publications and awards supported and encouraged by this institution, these being aligned with the slogan of the PAIGH: “Science in the Service of Peace”.

Recognition for MA. Antonio Campuzano on the 87th Anniversary of the Day of the Cartographic Service
MA. Antonio Campuzano Rosales, Secretary General of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH), was invited by Brigade General Andrés Ramírez Xochicali of the Army Staff, Director General of Cartography National Defense Secretariat (SEDENA), to a breakfast on the occasion of the commemoration of the 87th Anniversary of the Day of the Cartographic Service in Mexico.
During the event, MA. Campuzano received recognition for his outstanding academic participation, in which he gave the presentation titled “What is the Pan American Institute of Geography and History?”. This recognition upholds the collaboration and the commitment of the PAIGH with various organizations and initiatives at national and international levels, strengthening the tasks of this Institute, which are aligned with the 2022-2025 Strategic Modernization Plan.

Visit to the PAIGH of BA. Daniel Cámara Ávalos, Director General of Regional American Organizations and Mechanisms of the Secretariat of Foreign Relations of Mexico
The Pan American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH) received the visit of BA. Daniel Cámara Ávalos, Director General of Regional American Organizations and Mechanisms of the Secretariat of Foreign Relations of Mexico, accompanied by BA. Wilma Gandoy Vázquez, Director of Coordination of that same institution.
MA. Antonio Campuzano Rosales, Secretary General of the PAIGH, gave a warm welcome to the distinguished guests and offered them a tour around the iconic building that houses the offices of the General Secretariat of the PAIGH. During the tour, MA. Campuzano presented the key activities of the Institute within the framework of its Strategic Plan for 2022-2025, emphasizing especially the Technical Assistance Program and the publications put into effect in collaboration with its Member States.
BA. Cámara Ávalos stated his interest in strengthening cooperation with the PAIGH, emphasizing the importance of the efforts of the Institute to support and encourage unity through science. In his words: “We seek spaces for collaboration and growth… the dissemination that the PAIGH performs reinforces unity in science; proof of this are its publications, which cover issues of identity and the sense of belonging in the region, such as in History”.
The visit ended with the traditional signing of the Book of Distinguished Visitors of the PAIGH, a gesture that reaffirms the links of cooperation and collaboration between the two institutions.

Commemoration of the 97th Anniversary of the PAIGH
During the event, MA. Antonio Campuzano Rosales, Secretary General of the PAIGH, accompanied by Dr. Patricia Solís, President of the PAIGH, welcomed the attendees. In the program, the new institutional logo and seal was presented; this celebrated the “97th Anniversary of the PAIGH” and the “95 th Anniversary of the headquarters Palace building”, with the phrase “Towards the Centenary of the PAIGH”, in reference to the next hundred years of the existence of this Pan American scientific and technical institution.
In his speech, MA. Campuzano pointed out the recent approval of Resolution 1 at the 25 th General Assembly (Santiago, Chile, November 19 th – 21st, 2024), which defines the “Updates to the Pan American Agenda of the PAIGH”. This agenda shall guide the scientific work of the PAIGH over the coming six years and will contribute to the fulfilment of the Sustainable Development Objectives of the UN Agenda 2030. Moreover he emphasized the collaboration work with various international scientific organizations in the continent and the participation of the PAIGH in forums of the Earth sciences and History.
For her part, Dr. Patricia Solís, the first lady president of the PAIGH, gave a heartfelt speech, stating her pride in having established a personal tradition for annually researching and donating a portrait of a female geographer to the gallery of the PAIGH. On this occasion, she presented the portrait of Harriet Chalmers Adams, geographer, writer, photographer and explorer of the United States.
Dr. Solís also underlined the efforts made jointly with MA. Antonio Campuzano Rosales and BSc. Pahola Méndez to renew the diplomatic activity of the PAIGH, strengthening its status within the Organization of American States (OAS) and other international entities. She also re-stated her commitment to the preparation for the centenary of the PAIGH and highlighted the importance of working with the National Sections in order to build a safer future, based on knowledge provided by the sciences.
During the ceremony, recognition was given to the specialists MA. Rubén Ruiz Guerra and BA. Ana Laura Correa Benítez, of the Latin America and Caribbean Research Center (CIALC) at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), for their outstanding work on the dissemination of knowledge about the history of America, especially for coordinating the successful Diploma course in the History of Latin America, which has been run in virtual mode four times.
At the ceremony, representatives of the Diplomatic Corp accredited in Mexico were present, including ambassadors, also leaders of international organizations and scientific societies.

Visit of MSc. Fabián Vázquez Romaña to the PAIGH
The Pan American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH) received the visit of Master in Sciences Fabián Vázquez Romaña, the new General Coordinator of the National Meteorological Service of Mexico (SMN). MSc. Vázquez Romaña, accompanied by his team of supporting staff, was received by MA. Antonio Campuzano Rosales, Secretary General of the PAIGH, at the premises of the Palace building headquarters of this organization.
As part of the program and its protocol, a tour was made around the Palace building, in which MA. Campuzano pointed out the architectural features of this place and some of the historic events that have taken place on these premises. Subsequently, the visitors saw the “Dr. William Bowie” hall, where MA. Campuzano gave a presentation about the activities of the PAIGH, underlining its mission in scientific development in the areas of Cartography, Geography, Geophysics, and History, also in related areas, in the Pan American region over almost 97 years of its existence.
In this event with its protocol, MSc. Fabián Vázquez signed the Book of Distinguished Visitors of the PAIGH, providing a message for the community of the continent: “Science in the service of peace should always be of high status throughout the world”.
To conclude the event, the guests received a sample of the printed publications that the PAIGH put into effect in collaboration with its Member States, as proof of the work performed for the dissemination of scientific knowledge.
It should be pointed out that the two institutions share a close communication, that is geographic and institutional, as they both form part of the Old Palace complex of the former Archbishopric of Tacubaya.
With this visit, the PAIGH reaffirms its commitment to strengthening links with national and international institutions, encouraging and supporting interdisciplinary scientific development and cooperation to benefit the Pan American community.
