
From November 1 to 3, 2023, experts, authorities, and leaders in the fields of geography, history, and Earth sciences gathered in the historic city of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, to address fundamental issues relevant to the Pan American region.

From November 1 to 3, in the city of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, representatives of the Member States of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH) will meet at the 24th General Assembly to make important decisions, establish guidelines, and foster international collaboration, with the aim of continuing to promote the development of the geographical sciences and history.
With the attendance of the authorities of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History, the 2023 Statutory Meetings of this specialized agency of the OAS began on October 30.
The following days saw the 100th Meeting of Authorities, the 5th Joint Technical Meeting of the Commissions, and the 24th General Assembly, as well as the Dominican Congress of Geographical Sciences, all held in the beautiful city of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

As part of the 24th General Assembly of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History, the 100th Meeting of Authorities and the 5th Joint Technical Meeting of the Commissions were inaugurated on October 30. During the formal event, the hosts warmly welcomed the PAIGH authorities, colleagues, scientists, and executives from the Americas.
Representing the Government of the Dominican Republic, the ceremony was presided over by the Deputy Minister of Economic and Social Analysis, Dr. Alexis Cruz; the Thematic Ambassador of the Deputy Minister of Multilateral Foreign Policy Affairs, Ambassador Néstor Cerón; and Mr. Bolívar Troncoso Morales, President of the National Section of the PAIGH in this country and Director of the José Joaquín Hungría Morell National Geographic Institute.
During this first day of work, certificates were presented accrediting the authorities in their current positions in this international organization. In addition, the Secretary General of the PAIGH, Antonio Campuzano, received a plaque of recognition for the Institute from the President of the National Section of the Dominican Republic.
In the afternoon, the scheduled work agenda continued.
On November 1, the formal ceremony marking the start of the working agenda of the 24th General Assembly of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History was held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on November 1 and 2, 2023.
The inauguration was presided over by Dr. Alexis Cruz, Deputy Minister of Economic and Social Analysis of the Ministry of Economy, Planning, and Development of the Government of the Dominican Republic, as well as the authorities of the PAIGH and the President of the National Section of the host country.


En el marco de la 24ª Asamblea General deWithin the framework of the 24th General Assembly of the IPGH – Instituto Panamericano de Geografía e Historia , the working groups for the 5th Technical Meeting of the Commissions of this scientific body were established in the Dominican Republic, a member country.
Mr. Bolívar Troncoso, President of the National Section of the host country, wished success to the scientists and specialists in the fields of cartography, geography, history, geophysics, and related sciences who attended this event, both in person and virtually. With that, the activities for October 30 and 31 were inaugurated.
Likewise, the President, Dr. Patricia Solís, and the Secretary General, Antonio Campuzano, warmly welcomed the Presidents of the Commissions, as well as the members of the Committees and Working Groups, among other guests.
These meetings are of great importance, as they allow the commissions to interact with each other in order to carry out joint projects within the framework of the Technical Assistance Program, as well as to evaluate those already underway, in addition to enriching the technical and academic presentations by the participating scientists.



On Monday, October 30, at their 100th Meeting, PAIGH authorities will share experiences, reflect on past achievements, and outline the Institute’s vision for the future.
