Celebration of 95 years of contributions to the development of America

During the ceremony marking the 95th anniversary of the founding of this scientific and technical organisation, Mr Antonio Campuzano Rosales, Secretary General, highlighted the noble principles and valuable contributions that both women and men have made throughout the history of this institution for the development and benefit of the American continent.


Throughout the history of the PAIGH, women have played a fundamental role in its various bodies, structures, and activities. For this reason, during the 23rd General Assembly held in Quito, Ecuador (2022), Resolution 11 was approved, referring to the mural that pays tribute to the women who have held positions of authority in this institution.
The inauguration of the PAIGH Mural of Women Authorities was carried out by Dr. Elsa Leticia Flores Márquez, Dr. Patricia Solís, and Dr. Patricia Galeana (left to right), who are part of this tribute through their portraits.

During the commemoration of the 95th anniversary of the PAIGH, a plaque was unveiled to inaugurate the ‘Ing. Pedro Celestino Sánchez’ Historical Archive.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Dr. Patricia Galeana, former President of the PAIGH History Commission.
As part of the anniversary ceremony programme, portraits of the following distinguished scientists were unveiled in the Gallery of Geographers and Historians of America: Piedad Peñaherrera de Costales (anthropologist), Martha Ordoñez Albán (palaeontologist), Artemis Torres Valenzuela (historian), Raquel María de León (geographer and historian) and Eunice Newton Foote (scientist).

56 Years of OPANAL: a shared commitment to peace in the Americas


With the aim of strengthening alliances with international organisations, Antonio Campuzano Rosales attended the commemoration of the 56th anniversary of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean (OPANAL), an international organisation based in Mexico which, like the PAIGH, has the mission of preserving peace in the Americas.

The PAIGH at Petróleos Mexicanos’ ‘Jornada Guinda’ event

Mr Antonio Campuzano, Secretary General of the PAIGH, participated in the ‘Jornada Guinda’, a virtual event organised by Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX), where he gave a moving keynote speech entitled ‘Flag of Mexico’, addressing the topic from a historical perspective. With this participation, the PAIGH reaffirms its commitment to bringing its activities closer to the host country’s government institutions.
Meeting between the IPGH and the Baja California History Seminar (Mexico) to discuss future collaborations
A virtual meeting was held between the Secretary General of the PAIGH and Mr. Eduardo de la Vega Smith, President of the Baja California History Seminar (Mexico), as well as academic Horacio González Moncada.
During the meeting, an overview of the PAIGH’s Technical Assistance Programme (PAT) was presented and possible future collaboration projects were discussed.

Keynote lecture on Pedro Henríquez Ureña


Responding to the kind invitation of Her Excellency María Isabel Castillo Baez, Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to Mexico, the Secretary General of the PAIGH, Antonio Campuzano Rosales, visited the facilities of El Colegio de México to accompany Dr. Eduardo Moctezuma Matos in the presentation of the keynote lecture ‘Pedro Henríquez Ureña: a profile,’ as part of the reactivation of the Extraordinary Chair of Latin American and Caribbean Studies ‘Pedro Henríquez Ureña.’
It should be noted that Dr. Eduardo Matos Moctezuma collaborated for several years as part of the Editorial Committee (1980–2012) of the Boletín de Antropología Americana, a publication edited by the Pan American Institute of Geography and History until 2016.

MA Antonio Campuzano Rosales, Secretary General of the PAIGH, held a meeting with Mr Emilio López Romero, Director of the National Centre for Geographic Information of Spain (National Geographic Institute of Spain and CNIG). The purpose of the meeting was to coordinate joint actions that benefit the Pan American community, within the framework of the PAIGH’s Technical Assistance Programme (PAT).

The PAIGH and OPANAL: a shared commitment to peace in Latin America
In accordance with the ‘Strategic Plan for the Modernisation of the PAIGH 2022-2025’ and with the aim of linking the Institute with international organisations, Mr Antonio Campuzano, Secretary General of the PAIGH, visited the headquarters of the Agency for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Latin America, where he was received by Ambassador Flávio Roberto Bonzanini, Secretary General of OPANAL, an organisation based in Mexico which, like the PAIGH, promotes the principles of peace in the region. The PAIGH in the 3rd CIALC Report

The Secretary General of the PAIGH attended the presentation of the 3rd Activity Report by Dr. Rubén Ruiz Guerra, Director of the Centre for Research on Latin America and the Caribbean (CIALC) at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
In recent years, a strong relationship has been forged with CIALC through agreements and academic work.
