As part of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Pan American Centre for Geographical Studies and Research (CEPEIGE), based in the Republic of Ecuador, the Secretary General of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History, Mr Antonio Campuzano Rosales, presented Mr Nelson Ortega, Director of the Centre, with a plaque of recognition and congratulations, in compliance with Resolution 19 of this specialised agency of the Organisation of American States (OAS), approved at its last meeting. The Director of the Military Geographical Institute of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay (IGM), Colonel Andrés Moraes, gave the Secretary General of the PAIGH, Mr. Antonio Campuzano Rosales, a tour of the facilities of the institution he heads. During the visit to the Fortaleza de Artigas Military Museum in Montevideo, he was received by Magister José María Olivero Orecchia, where the Secretary General signed the Distinguished Visitors Book and expressed his gratitude for the invitation.

Mr Antonio Campuzano Rosales, Secretary General of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH), paid an official visit to the Eastern Republic of Uruguay. During his stay, he was received at the headquarters of the Military Geographical Institute (IGM) by its Director, Colonel Andrés Moraes.
The meetings addressed various topics related to projects developed by Uruguay in the areas of Earth Sciences and History, which are supported by the PAIGH through the Technical Assistance Programme (PAT). He also met with Colonel Juan Croquis, President of the National Section of the PAIGH in Uruguay. Both representatives reaffirmed their commitment to the goals established in the 2022-2025 Strategic Modernisation Plan, which seeks to strengthen the scientific and technical development of Member States by supporting the National Sections.
During the meetings, the importance of the PAIGH’s Technical Assistance and Publications Programmes was emphasised, as well as the promotion of the work of Uruguayan scientists in areas such as cartography, geography, geophysics and history. The availability of scholarships and annual awards offered by the PAIGH to promote research and the dissemination of knowledge in the region was also highlighted.
Finally, he met with Dr. Agrim. Rosario Casanova, Vice-President of the Regional Network of the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) and President of the Academic Network.

Dr. Casanova plays a key role in regional organisations dedicated to the areas of geomatics, geotechnologies, land use planning and territorial policies. Her contributions include her collaboration on the book ‘Property Tax Systems in Latin America and the Caribbean’ (2016).



Recognition of SIRGAS’s 30th anniversary during the PAIGH visit to Uruguay
As part of his official visit to the National Section of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH) in the Eastern Republic of Uruguay, MA. Antonio Campuzano Rosales, Secretary General of this Institute, held a meeting with Colonel Gustavo Caubarrère, President of the Geodetic Reference System for the Americas (SIRGAS).
During the meeting, Mr. Campuzano extended special congratulations to Colonel Caubarrère on the 30th anniversary of SIRGAS, a working group attached to the PAIGH Cartography Commission. In recognition of this important commemoration, he presented a commemorative plaque at an official ceremony, in compliance with Resolution 20 of the 24th General Assembly of the PAIGH, approved on 2 November 2023 in the Dominican Republic.

Meeting between PAIGH and UN-GGIM: Americas for the Planning of the 11th Session of the Regional Committee
As part of the Strategic Plan of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH), Mr Antonio Campuzano Rosales, Secretary General of the PAIGH, held a virtual meeting with members of the United Nations Regional Committee on Global Geospatial Information Management for the Americas (UN-GGIM: Americas).
The session was attended by Sofía Nilo Crisóstomo, Chair of UN-GGIM: Americas; Leonardo Scharth Loureiro Silva, Vice-Chair; Pamela Castillo, Executive Secretary; and Álvaro Mauricio Monet, representative of the Statistics Division of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).
The purpose of this meeting was to confirm and adjust preparations for the 11th Session of the Regional Committee, scheduled for October 2024 in Mexico.
During the meeting, Mr. Campuzano reaffirmed the PAIGH’s commitment to technical and scientific collaboration and ratified its institutional support for the objectives of UN-GGIM: Americas, thus strengthening the ties of cooperation between both entities.

Participation of the Secretary General of the PAIGH in the International Colloquium on Haiti’s Contribution to the Emancipation of Peoples


MA. Antonio Campuzano Rosales, Secretary General of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH), participated as a guest speaker at the opening of the International Colloquium ‘Haiti’s contribution to the emancipation of peoples (Global struggle against slavery and colonisation)’, organised by the Government of the Republic of Haiti. This event was inaugurated on 14 November in a hybrid format from Pétion-Ville, Haiti, and is being held in collaboration with the Institute of African Studies and Research and the UNESCO Chair in History and Heritage at the State University of Haiti.

The PAIGH at the Commemoration of Dominican Republic Day in Mexico
On November 7, Maestro Antonio Campuzano Rosales, Secretary General of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH), attended as a special guest the celebration of Dominican Republic Day, organised by the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in Mexico.
The event was led by Ambassador María Isabel Castillo Báez and attended by various dignitaries. During the activities, Mr. Campuzano expressed his deep gratitude to the Ambassador, Minister Counsellor Freddy Espinosa Mireles, and the Director of Economic Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic, Ramón Grullón Solórzano, for their country’s outstanding role as host of the most recent statutory meetings of the PAIGH.

Start of the 24th General Assembly of the PAIGH in Santo Domingo

The formal ceremony marking the start of the working agenda of the 24th General Assembly of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH) was held. This important event is taking place in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on November 1 and 2, 2023.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Dr. Alexis Cruz, Deputy Minister of Economic and Social Analysis of the Ministry of Economy, Planning, and Development of the Dominican Republic, together with PAIGH authorities and the President of the National Section of the host country.
First Plenary Session of the 24th General Assembly of the PAIGH
On November 1, 2023, during the 24th General Assembly of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH), held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, the First Plenary Session was held.
At this session, the PAIGH authorities presented their reports for the 2023 period: Mr. Antonio Campuzano Rosales, Secretary General, presented a detailed report on institutional progress, in line with the “PAIGH Strategic Modernization Plan 2022-2025.” He highlighted achievements in scientific research, training, publications, financial transparency, and regulatory compliance.
